Happy Birthday Colonel Panic!!!!!

Just got back from dinner at Kaze. It was excellent, as usual. Every dish brought its own unique surprises to the table. Even the regular a'la carte nigiri pieces incorporated unusual ingredients like fresh herbs and special seasonings. Especially good were the toro tuna tartare with deep-fried shrimp spring rolls, and the white tuna/crab makimono.

We had a fine daiginjo sake with dinner and for dessert I tried shochu (Japanese rice whiskey) for the first time. It was very smooth, with a very subtle flavor, and not quite as strong as American or Scotch whiskies.

The desserts were amazing as well. ERawk had an asparagus pudding atop a patterned array of sauces; strawberry puree, chocolate syrup and cognac-flavored cream and topped with raspberries. I had the black sesame flan with sweetened basil seeds, cherries and filaments of caramelized sugar. Both desserts were delicious.

What a great meal.

Asparagus pudding? I love asparagus, but man that sounds awful. Not to insult you, i'm sure it was good. I'm just having a hard time picturing that. But then again, i'm an idiot when it comes to food.

Uh yeah. I think I'm going to head over there now.

ERawk is kinda passed out right now, so I may have to go by myself.

The asparagus flavor in the pudding was really subdued. It was like a creamy custard with a slight hint of asparagus. It meshed surprisingly well with the strawberry and chocolate sauces. Absolutely delicious. We decided to order it for the simple reason that it appeared so strange on the menu and we were surprised how incredibly good it was.

The black sesame flan tasted a lot like rocky road or butter pecan ice cream.
