Nice to have a leisurely day around the house to do whatever- including lots of shop time.Got the neck tenon fitted pretty well and put the little pins in to properly align the fretboard when gluing it onto the neck- which turns out to be a royal pain in the ass.and glued in my bridgeplate (more spruce).Got the structure and covers cut and assembled for the new box- should drop right in.and some cool stuff I just wanted to show off- found this in the discard bin at a thrift shop- someone took a lot of time to sew this sign- super cool.and my dad made this cool wood mallet for me. not sure I want to bang it up by using it.

first mockup. I have since affixed the neck, which was fussy business. I have the next week more or less off, so hopefully will get the bridge and fretboard on tomorrow.

Cool work all-around. I'm especially digging that mallet. Might do something similar next time a storm provides my neighborhood with some downed branches!

Thanks guys.Today I glued on the bridge, did some sanding, and installed the pickup (the back is still off, which makes all of this very easy). Glued 2 more cleats on the back. lots of tedious gluing of tolex on the new work box. None of this was very exciting to photograph.

This little guys is almost done- ended up being a 14th fret parlor with a 25.5" scale- kinda odd, but used the parts I had easy access to.Just need to get a finish on it, then attach nut/tuners/whatnot expecting to need to do some fretwork, etc.There are countless things wrong/fucked/embarrassing about it. But I enjoyed the process enough that I'm gonna try to build another. Since I got my fancy bandsaw, I will try to resaw my own wood- gonna go w/ all mahogany (cause the lumber store down the street had some). and go 100% from scratch. kinda excited- and hopefully much faster.

done. I'm gonna let it settle a bit before I do a final setup, but it is playing pretty nice, and actually sounds nice- lots of mids, lots of attack- which makes sense from what I'm told about ladder bracing and engelmann spruce. Obviously the lower bout bend is not smooth, there are some less than perfect joints, etc- but by and large happy as a first try. The thing I'm gonna take a shot at next, while I collect wood for the next build, is making a shaped case for this guy.

It has been a week since I completed the little parlor- actually enjoy it quite a bit. it met with "for a first try, not too bad" from the luthier I work with...so that is something.I now have a long list of projects I want to get thru this winter/spring. -Making a shaped hardwood case for the parlor, will be doing this by bending poplar and kerfing the inside, much like how acoustics are built.-Build another parlor, completely from scratch, using mostly mahogany (which was on sale at the lumber store by my house).-Have a hankerin' for a ric bass, specifically a 4000. I cannot afford such a thing, so I'm going to try to build one, again from scratch. will do it 30" scale. If anyone has a ric and can give me some general dimensions, or could mail me a tracing of the body and headstock, I would be forever in your debt.
