This band is one of the all time greats for me. Whenever trying to discuss the greats with people they are always mentioned with the Magic Band and King Crimson but I will tell you one thing:

World Class Listening Problem is a pile of HORSESHIT.

There are melodies in that album that sound like they are straight out of an eighties sitcom. The drums are weak for what che is capable of and the new guitarists (apart from looking like they just stepped out of guitarmaggedon at Guitar Center) have no cohesive flow and meshing of the parts the way banfield and williams did.

Perhaps that is unfair in that I feel that Banfield and Williams had some of the best weaving of sounds of any guitar duo in rock but still....

This album is lazy and childish compared with What Burns and II.

Maybe I'm queer, but What Burns Never Returns is probably my least favorite Don Cab album, even more so than For Respect. I don't see what people like so much about that album compared to American Don and II. WBNR seems way more half-assed and self-indulgent than American Don.

I am highly, inappropriately partial to "If You've Read Dr. Adder, Then You Know What I Want." Damon's completely fixed on the hi-hats in it, and he's really great and delicate on them, which gives it a way mellower feel than most of their other stuff. Wonderful track. From 1995.

It's on the singles comp, if you're not one of the upper echelon humans who own the Sixty Second Compilation.

World Class Listening Problem is slowly becoming my favourite Don Cab record.

I love the fact that the sub-Reich noodling-for-noodling's sake has mostly been dropped in favour of unashamed R&R.

My Don Cab-related :WF: is lessening.

This statement is retarded.

Salut Adam CR!

You explain with ease what I have difficulty explaining. This record sounds like the guys had a blast making it. The new lineup knew they had big shoes to fill and by the sound of it threw they public opinion to the wind and made a gimmick-free album they were proud of.

With three new members I think it's crazy to expect Don Cab to pick up again with the exact same sound. In fact I was hoping for the progression. I'd hate this album/lineup if it was actually a "don caballero cover band" or a "Damon vanity project" doing the same ol routine. But take a listen and you can cleary tell that's simply not the case.

I think because Damon is known for an asshole repuation people feel it's fair to write off him making similar music as trying to relive something. That's crap, asshole or not.

Yeah, I definitely hear that in Palm Trees, that's about it though.

Very choice selection of words, because you are correct, they don't mesh the parts the way banfield and williams did. There certainly is a cohesive flow, though.

As for the drumming? What album are you listening to? Savage composition? 'Turn on a dime' transition in Acting around 2:00? Goofball? Yeah, the overall song composition is less complex, staying is 4/4, 3/4, or 5/4; but the drumming itself is far from weak.

Yeah, no arguement here. Afro Pop is one of my favorite examples.

It's not as technical, no. If it were the same exact sound but less techincal you'd be correct. But it's a different sound. There are three different people in the band now. Unless you're huge a Creta Bourzia fan how do you have the reference to know what's lazy for them?

Hope none of this comes off dickish.
Also, I have to ask, is your name a play off Fat Man Dee?

I understand what you are saying and I certainly don't think you are being dickish.

More than anything regarding the cohesive statement, I would say that this has more to do with the natural and easy feel with which Banfield and Williams pulled off their lines and how the transitions were smooth as butter.

I don't feel this with the new band. It feels forced and the songwriting feels extremely cold to me.

The name Ant Man Bee is a Captain Beefheart song title.

cheers!
