I am a fan. I like that if you listen to the lyrics, there is some fairly depraved shit going on. Like someone decided to sing big black lyrics all pretty.

I do not own the record but have been very impressed with what I have seen (him play on TV) and heard. It may not be exactly my cup of tea (though that said, I LOVE the Bee Gee's and Nina Simone) .... I have a feeling if I had the record I would like it a lot. I may test that theory this week.

I like both his albums. He also does an excellent version of Candy Says on Lou Reed's Animal Serenade live album and it might very well be the best version of that song ever recorded. He also sings a verse of Set the Twilight Reeling that gives me chills.
I don't care about his sexuality; it's irrelevant.

I've seen Antony in Carnegie Hall, and I've seen him in a small church in Toronto, and I can say that it was a privelege to hear that voice. Put aside the fact that he's a 6' 4" 250 lb ghae man with a stringy scary black wig. That voice is something to hear. Not crap at all, unless you're talking about his 1st album, which is sketchy. Antony is something special, and whether you like him or not, he isn't crap.

I kept seeing press about the guy and how he walked on water and all that. I listened to a clip of a song, heard just a few seconds of his voice. It just sounded like Tiny Tim to me. The only difference being, I kind of like Tiny Tim (in small doses). I didn't care for Antony at all.

See, this is kinda true, but it doesn't change the fact that he has incredible control over his peculiar instrument (okay, that came out wrong) and can invest his singing with an incredible amount of emotion.
My appreciation is probably heightened due to the fact I know a number of people from my/my friends' choirs and shows who would stab their own mothers to death for his skills.

Antony's performance was by far the best thing in that recent Leonard Cohen tribute concert movie. Better even than Nick Cave's. Really mesmerizing stuff. Maybe I'll give his record another try.

I put him right up there with Davandra Banhart, Jo. Newsom, and cocorosie as the quatrain of bad ideas. It seriously sounds like children coming up with songs set to 'music' made on ukes, casio kids keyboards, and chirping birds. My kid, aged 16 months, made up a song called 'Happy' today--it's infinitely more interesting than Antony.
To me it is, at least. My friends here love it and I cannot fucking understand it.
My brain is small, though.
Small brains.

I like Devendra, mostly because of Nino Rojo. I really like the guitar playing.
Antony is okay, he has a good voice, and I'm sure I'd enjoy seeing it lives, but the hinky-dink sad piano, strings, and crooning about being a trannie just doesn't do it for me.
Someone mentioned the Nick Cave B-side? I have that album, its very good. I find myself skipping from disc to disc, though.
