Very much agreed.

the best rapper alive right now is bizzy bone (formerly of bone thugs n harmony). he is also just about the best male vocalist alive, maybe number 2 (behind mike patton).
This statement, however, I find totally perplexing. I used to be an avid hip-hop fan (I say "used to be" because I haven't actively bought hip-hop records for the last 10+ years) I can't fathom how Bizzy Bone could be considered the best rapper alive right now, but I'll concede this point based on the fact that admittedly I'm not "up" on my hip-hop these days. Describing Mike Patton as the best male vocalist alive is just ludicrous to me though. I'm not saying he hasn't done a lot of interesting things and doesn't have a strong voice, but
best male vocalist alive?!

I liked/own this. I love it up until the point where that guy starts blathering over it...
As an outsider, I have to say that Public Enemy, NWA, The Beastie Boys, The Warlock Pinchers, and Tricky are the only things close to hip-hop I've really heard and paid attention to. Skoolie D (sp?)'s work on the Aqua Teen Hunger Force soundtracks sounds like high-quality stuff...which probably means he is a genuine talent, and I just haven't heard any of it...
I'd like to hear some hip hop that didn't make me want to automatically roll my eyes. I really would. I don't dance.

rayj,
I would highly recommend Madvillain's Madvillainy. it's the first hip hop album in years that I actually loved. it's a really dense album, but surprisingly minimal. most of the songs don't cross the 3and a half minute mark, and they lyrics (once you can pick them out of the density) are ridiculously good. the "subtle-lisped, double dipped, bubble-lipped midget" will "turn a newport light into a joint right before your eyes".
incredible shit.

I just breezed through a little bit online, through the crappy MP3>computer speaker chain...
It does sound cool. Believe it or not, I like some DMX too. Or his producer. Whatever...
You guys remember Trenchmouth? I liked those guys quite a bit...

dude tell me what you disagree with and we'll have a polite discussion on the matter.
could it be that you fall into the following category that i mentioned:
bclark wrote:people who listen to this kind of rap, generally, are suckers for any raps that are "scientific," any raps that complain about the mainstream, any raps with over-the-top multisyllable coordination in the rhyme scheme (people who rhyme "toasted skin monopoly" with "roasted him probably") which often forces them to make meaningless lyrics, and anyone who rhymes "lyrical" with "miracle"
after all, you do listen to jedi mind tricks. they never run out of those silly multisyllable rhymes:
"The fuck out you wanna wet duke squirt your four
Since birth I been raw hot like surface core
Kidnap your baby's mom straight earth the whore
See I do rhyme and crime so I can purchase more"
...
"Ya'll been duckin for quite some time now
Vinnie bout to teach you how to write some rhymes now "
(from the song "blood runs cold")
theres lots of rappers who feel that its required to match this many syllables. they are generally garbage.
I don't listen to Jedi Mind Tricks.

This is a long shot, but does anyone have or no where one can find some somewhat old hip hop mix tapes? I'm thinking pre-95...Old Stretch Armstrong shows perhaps? Anyone?
