It is the filmakers challenge to get the hero through to the ending either by tragedy or other victory while still suspending our disbelief. It is lazy writing to kill the hero and let the villain get away without reason or purpose, BIG DEAL we all know that story we see it everyday.

so you think it sucked because it didn't follow the generic narrative template.

perhaps the hero did make it to the end?

Fucking sucked, no reason to kill the hero in this one, none, pointless. Yeah you could read in some metaphoric bullshit and dig for some poignancy if you want but you would be fooling yourself just like the cohen bros did. What a turkey. Its like nobody can make a point anymore without being completely bleak. Brutality for Brutalities sake thinly veiled with some mish mash philosophical ruminations. Total Bullshit, this confirms that the cohen bros have lost it . They are no longer capable of making a solid movie . Cheap sensationalism masquerading as art. "Perfect Movie" ? You are a fucking retard. IT had promise and threw it away. Incomplete story, no resolution. There was no ending they just gave up. I don't give a fuck that it was based on a novel CHANGE THE FUCKING STORY and change the cop out ending. Fuck this shit I am never seeing a new Cohen Bros Movie Again. Waste of money and time. I paid for an entire movie including a fucking ending and I want one Dammit!! Total Disappointment. Let down.

Wow.

The ending was perfect to convey the tone of the entire film. What the fuck do you want? Some fake-out ending that disregards the novel and works out for everyone like Fargo? The brutality was well-balanced. Read the book. See what the Cohen Bros. were working with. The pairing is incredible.

Go watch Tarantino and jerk off.

Yes, it would have been so much better if Tommy Lee Jones and the killer karate fought on the top of a building in the rain, then Tommy Lee Jones throws him off and says 'see you in hell!' then there's some explosions and the good guy gets away with the money...that would have been so much better than that stupid ending that made me sit there silently in the theatre and ponder it for 10 minutes after it ended and then my wife and I sat in a restaurant eating pie afterwards discussing our takes on it for two hours and then I call my dad and we talk about it for an hour and I am still thinking about it all the time and talking with people about it....I hate that, when a movie makes people think about life and shit

Just saw this move. Felt like I was gonna get an air-gun blast to the head while I walked to my car on the way out. Entering my apartment, I expected Javier Bardem to be behind the door waiting to kill me as I walked in.

Not crap.

Yeah, I don't think you were paying attention. One of my favorite endings.
Here is another movie with a great ending that people like you bitched about at the time.

Much gratitude at seeing an excellent film in the theater.

"Brutal" and "beautiful" have been used a lot, and they are appropriate--brutal stories and beautiful shots. I was ~5 minutes late to the movie, so couldn't discern at first what the significance of the pick-up trucks in the basin were about--but there was a palpable dark feel to that setting. And fuck, it was beautiful. And that daunting darkness just stays.

Loved seeing the emotionless, calculating bad guy present in the films/tv shows of my childhood but missing for awhile.

I felt for a day or two that the film should have ended at the moment of the car crash, but it is perfect. Evil strolling off into a leafy suburb and good conceding.

I got $100 worth of tickets while I was in the theater, but didn't get irritated at them until a few hours later, when my mind was not engrossed in thinking about the film. That's pretty good, Coens!

This film is also nominated for many Golden Globes, including a collective 3? for the Coens.

Saw it yesterday. Definitely Not Crap.

I was left with some questions though, but the lack of answers doesn't change my enjoyment of the movie. However...

(spoiler stuff follows)

Here are some questions: Who got the money? Where did it go? Mr. BadAss doesn't have it at the end, at least not on his person. Did Tommy Lee Jones end up with? Is that why he retired and seemed a bit "off"? Several time in the movie people who had the money referred either to each other or to themselves as "retired".

What happened in the hotel room at the end...why didn't the killer confront Jones? Or did he? Off camera? Did Jones get the money from him?

Anyway....great movie.

How do you think he bought that shirt? Also, the coin and screws for the vent in the hotel room...? Does that help?
