Yeah, it would. By the idea of someone playing without one is pretty novel at this point, it's kind of cool.
Yeah, I don't think I've busted one but the head will develop a divot without one. And as I'm usually going for an older sound with an Emperor or Fiberskyn batter, the pad provides a subtle amount of ring control without going as far as a Powerstroke/Eq2.

Also, drum stores almost always seem to be out of the pads. Maybe I should try to find a large sheet of adhesive-backed kevlar and start cutting my own..

My assumption as well. Who else has $4-10k to spend on a guitar?

Garth wrote: Sat Feb 26, 2022 7:28 pm ONE benefit to a guitar that looks beat to shit is that you CAN beat the shit out of it or at least play it extremely aggressively without worrying about fucking it up as well as have the rest of it "new" quality that you don't have to fuck with hardware or anything. *shrug*
This doesn't make sense to me. If you're not bothered about it looking beat up then why not just play a new one that hasn't been pre-distressed?

Yeah I mean I'm absolutely not trying to be contrarian. My friend said this to me and I was like..."hm...ok...?"

I guess the thinking is that you might baby a perfect guitar trying to protect its finish, resale value, etc. Like "oh this one never leaves the house." But a relic'd guitar is just for playing and there's no compartmentalization about it losing value by gigging out w/ it at a rowdy show where you're half-in-the-bag. And it won't lose it's value because nothing you can do to it would be noticeable, let alone worse.

again: *shrug*

Yeah I mean, I get the point he's making, but when it costs more for a pre-distressed one, save the bucks and do it yourself is my thought.

I feel like it is a wild oversight that all compressors do not have a clean blend control, I almost never use a compressed signal 100% wet, but I kinda super hate the sound of compression even though I understand why it is needed. It's just... ick. Unless you bring back some uncompressed signal. Also, Reverbs without a basic adjustable Hi-Pass filter. I never really find myself eqing reverb other than to take out low end. Just put it on every reverb. 1 more. Guitars with too many switches/knobs. Fuck all that. Tone controls on guitars are dumb. I use them on bass from time to time, but on guitar... never. I've played a Jazzmaster since 1993. The upper controls are gone, and the tone control has been gutted. Now it is correct. I've even thought about installing a toggle button in place of the volume knob to just make it a Mute.
