I think you will not.

This has a charming vocal, and I could imagine it being sung earnestly, in its way.

Unfortunately, everything else about it is horrible. The Beck part, the Enya part, the Ringtone part, the stream-of-Cheryl Crow-conciousness everyday subject matter, the low-fi toy music affectation, the digital drama of the ooo-waa backing vocal... I'd rather not go on, but I could.

That you have not recognized and been repulsed by these transparent cliches indicates that you have led a life sheltered from self-absorbed dilettantes, and for that you ought to be grateful. You remind me of a bushman awestruck by the magic and mystery of a Coca Cola bottle. It is easy to imagine that such a bushman can appreciate things I cannot, and to almost envy him.

But then I remember that bushmen have to eat grubs, wipe their asses with leaves and contract malaria.

Soup you are an iron-clad enigma. Knock yourself out.

This song on its own, as performed by its author Damien Jurado, is a perfectly fine song. The lyrics aren't excellent, but I appreciate Jurado earnestness. This is the first time I've listened to the Cocorosie version, though I heard about it months ago. I was too angry about its existence until now. I'm as angry as I ever was again after hearing it.

On Thursday, the local college station played the song "Animals" and the DJ commented that their last record was his favorite of 2007 and talked about how their music is about taking time for you or some garbage like that, basically taking all that stuff Steve has said awhile back about indulging and giving it a "positive" spin. I called the station up and made a request, that he never play Cocorosie again. He said no and really sounded like that wasn't the first time he had recieved that request.

That was such an awesome movie.

Also, the very small amount of Coco I listened to, I did not enjoy.

Steve likes to rag on my taste in music, but if his is so immaculate I found a little something here that I'd like him to explain:

It was on a compilation CD of cover songs that came with an issue of The Believer back in '05.

Following that logic, though, they haven't released any of their records.
