The engineer deserves criticism if he does a bad job on the recording. Poor material or performances do not reflect upon the engineer.

That seems obvious to me.

this is absolutely true, but most people don't know it. and most people listening to the record don't know what an engineer does, and probably think he had something to do with the quality of the material. especially if said engineer is credited with "production."

i think that's what Dregs was getting at. if so, i can see where he's coming from (from where he's coming?).

Can Steve here confirm it or not? I just noticed it on Wikipedia also, while doing some random searching. Yes or no?

I think Iggy's lyrics have slipped steadly since Blah Blah Blah. But he seems excited by the stooges project at least outwardly he might wake up and kick ass again. I mean most of the records since about 84' seem to be him going though the motions with hack sidemen to keep the intrest rolling for the touring money. Live he was always great even with the cheapest worst back up bands.

Reuters has confirmed Steve is indeed recording the new Stooges album...

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Punk icon Iggy Pop says he has been holed up in "a little cottage in the boonies on a little river" in Florida writing music with his old band the Stooges. Yes, the much-talked about reunion record is finally happening. (The Stooges released only three albums between 1969 and 1973, before Pop went on to have a solo career.)

He expects the album to come out next year on his solo-work label, Virgin Records. Steve Albini -- whose numerous credits include albums by the Pixies, Nirvana and PJ Harvey -- will produce, but the set also will include a package of songs produced by Jack White, frontman of the White Stripes and the Raconteurs and producer of Loretta Lynn's "Van Lear Rose."

hey man...i thought you were dead?
i heard your brother rick replaced you at the traps.
nevermind eh?

steve isn't going to prattle about his business practices where we talk about the minutiae of our squalid lives people.

if i'm honest, i kind of hope it isn't true.
there is no way it's going to be as good as the first three albums and all the 'diehards' will blame him. i recall the fantastic album he recorded with fred schneider, which was heavily derided by the cult of '52s. imagine how much more venemous old stooges fans will be. same thing happened with the page and plant album as i recall.

Advice to Steve: Let Ron Asheton smoke as much pot as he wants. We need him to the in the Real O Mind for this thing!
