I bet that a lot of forum members are confusing perfect pitch with years of unofficial and/or official musical training. I think I could sing a F# right now, but that would be far more my recognizing the note on the guitar it is, rather than any kind of "perfect pitch."
Hey guys, can you tune an E perfectly without the use of a tuner? I mean, right to the correct frequency on ears alone?

Didn't think so.
My cello instructor years ago told me that I have excellent relative pitch, relative pitch being "pretty-good-but-not-quite-perfect pitch". It's something that string players learn by having to hit notes without the help of frets. Relative pitch is what I'd say most people here have.
I don't normally use a tuner. I always tuned my cello by ear and didn't know any different when I started playing guitar. However, I tend to tune a touch sharp when I go by ear. And I can sing an A if you ask me to, but it's not gonna be exactly 440 hertz.

I worked for some asshole for a couple years who, in addition to playing guitar, bass, drums and whatever else his keyboards could come up with, claimed to have perfect pitch. I didn't work on music with him but the shit he wrote as an "artist" was cheeseball crap. If he really had perfect pitch it was unrelated to his creative "talent".

I attended a vocal lesson given by a man who had a dog that had perfect pitch. The dog would gag every time one of his vocal students was sharp or flat (could have been relative to his piano, I suppose). The topic came up because the fella I was there with that was doing the singing was told, "Well, you have excellent pitch." He then went on to explain why his dog was so silent during their lesson. It was a bit fascinating. And the instructor was far from a prank player.
This whole experience brought on quips related to "pitch dog", like "rushing dog" or "lyric dog" (he'd have to understand language, of course). If I could get a dog to gag every time I heard a bad lyric ... I could more easily explain to someone how yelling "yeah!" after he's unloaded a bunch of lyrics about how something in his life sucked with the help of a dog who gagged at bad lyrics, I'd bring him with me everywhere to ease the pain.
I have relative pitch.

this is inhuman. no one can do this.
but i can get you within a few hz. honest. i used to tune my friends guitar over the phone when he was starting out.
And I can sing an A if you ask me to, but it's not gonna be exactly 440 hertz.
if you can do that with every note, you do have perfect pitch.

A few hertz doesn't even matter if everyone is in tune with each other. It only really matters if you're in an ensemble tuning to A440.
