My band has a fairly stupid name, but so is the Butthole surfers.......once you have a following it tends to matter less and less, and the more people see it and say it it becomes second nature.

Here's a great band name:
UrineSpiders

Band names don't really matter. Music does. Good bands with equally good names are hard to find.

Yeah, once you have a name and make music, that music is what defines the name. All those things you thought it would represent (good or bad) when you came up with it will generally go right out the window.

As pointed out above, some of the best bands in the world have awful, awful names. It's cool to pick a good name, but in the end it's pretty much meaningless (in that sense that all band names together have infinite meanting).

Maybe you should play with people's expectations.

Ex: The Melvins, I think, early on probably fucked with a lot of the type of music people would expect a 'melvin' to make.

So, if your music is harsh, you should name your band after something nice, like Fluffernutter

If your music is nice and mellow, maybe still name it after something nice, like Fluffernutter.

Maybe you should simply revisit the Should Be A Band Name But Isn't thread. I mean, how many times do we do this? Any excuse, I'll tell ya...

if there's no way out, maybe the only option is to somehow improve on this horrible name, change it a little, so that it's still his original idea with a concession to the band.

This is a name I've tossed around a bit, and I later saw it a few other places

I think it's one of those things people think of independently, but a bunch of people think of it at around the same time, and everybody thinks they're the first one to think of it, but nobody knows who really did...

Still, if it's not claimed as a band name, fuggit...go for it.
