Does anyone have experience selling gear to Musicgoround? Not trading in or getting store credit, getting cash. I don't expect top dollar for stuff, but the convenience might make it worthwhile for me.

(side note: one of us should re-create the Gear Liquidation Thread. I'd do it but need to get pics of some stuff first)

I have had good and bad experiences. If you can, take it on a week day, during the day, when you have a better chance of dealing with an employee that isn't just a stressed part-timer trying to power through their day. If something is unique, rare, etc., let them know. I have been pleasantly surprised in a few instances. They have even adjusted the payout and given me more than their initial offer in situations where I've (politely) explained that, for example, these little Reslo mics were famously used by The Beatles or what not. The MGR in Milwaukee is pretty great. I've scored a lot of great stuff there, received some really generous trade-in value, and gotten more than expected a few times when I've sold. If what you're selling is basically crap, though, forget it. They'll offer you like $10 and then you'll be pissed that you wasted your time. But if you've got the goods and don't want to deal with Reverb, Ebay, Craigslist, or any seller's market, it's not bad. You could always get more if you go through the hassle of listing and selling yourself, of course.

You won't get good money at all but if you're just looking to unload a bunch of low cost stuff, it's convenient. Any remotely decent gear should go on craigslist.

To be fair to Musicgoround, they have to make their margins for rent, payroll, etc. so they'll offer you less than half of what you could get by selling it yourself.

Good to hear, thanks. Since a lot of it is amps (nothing that valuable but solid and working) I should probably look into local FB groups first perhaps, cuz yeah I wouldn't feel great about walking away with $150 per amp without trying something else first. I truly hate using CL though..

I have much better luck listing something in Facebook Marketplace tied to multiple Chicago Instrument gear sales groups than I do with CL these days. I'm sure there is at least one in Milwaukee you should join. It's also nice (mildly reassuring) when you see someone that's coming to buy something is FB friends with a couple of people you know.

Seattle has a great music gear Facebook group that I pretty much do all my selling through now. Hardly ever list on Craig's List unless it's been a couple weeks and it hasn't sold there. Hell, I barely even LOOK at CL anymore, and I bought most of my amps and cabs off there.

I've definitely gotten to where I almost don't want to deal with shipping stuff, especially anything bigger than a pedal. Rates to ship guitars and amps seem to have doubled in the last couple of years.

Does anyone else think it's a bummer to listen to Stereo mixes of stuff vs. how it sounds coming through a console or even just straight from the DAW, unbounced? Always kinda sucks a little in comparison to me.

Yes, this is why stereo analog summing boxes for DAWs are a thing. Digital summing isn't great.

I can take it a step further, and sometimes will think "damn these drums I'm recording sound like GOD" and by the time the other stuff gets added, all of it and said drums sound like crappola.

I've been summing through a mixer and definitely prefer it, but listening out of the console through speakers sounds so much better than listening to the console mix played back as a stereo file. It's pretty frustrating. I get a mix going that I like, and then it sounds so much smaller as a stereo file. Even if I am monitoring out of the DAW directly into speaker, it sounds good, then I bounce... sounds like someone turned down the "good" knob. I agree with Brian about drums too. By the time I get them in the mix they sound puny. Mixing sucks.
