Leather Hearse's Burn in Heaven. Under-the-radar thing from late last year.
Tannon from Loincloth, the singer (once known as Andrew, now known as Lloyd) from a '90s weirdo Richmond band called Sliang Laos, and a couple metal dudes w/whom I am unfamiliar (drummer from Triptykon, Necrophagist, and Blotted Science, plus a bassist w/a Ukrainian-sounding name [budmo, sir!]).
The technical, few-parts-repeating nature of the music, the ambient touches, and some of the riffs will please anyone—like me—who loved the late, lamented Cloth. But this is slightly more melodic and easier to grasp (a few almost friendly solos and vocal hooks here and there). Plus, the pained, growling vocals are a totally different beast, sounding slightly, in spots, like Tony from Circle X (an unintentional thing, I am almost sure) of all people.
Plus the whole affair is, in part, a tribute to the late RVA hardcore (punk, not porn) singer and writer Dwain Curd.
I appreciate it more on vinyl than on Bandcamp, but I'm old.
