I completely understand the idea that a band's entire aesthetic is probably more effective than just the music portion of that aesthetic. BUT, what if you genuinely enjoy a band's music without the non-musical parts doing much for you?

I love the band boss hog, but I don't find Cristina Martinez or Jon Spencer all that interesting. Spencer's "shake your rumps" are cute and all, but in the end i don't think i'd want to live like/ hang out with them. However, songs like 'Red Bath' are what I'd want any band I was in to sound like. Same with the Swell Maps, flipper, the fall, and tons of other bands i like. These are some of my favorite bands, but their aesthetic appeal lies in their music, not really their "overall" style.

I like the "overall" aesthetic of some other bands, but the exceptions are always blaring and they're always there.

See, I'd say "Good Friday" is probably the best CocoRosie song and that clinches it for me.

I quite like La Maison du Reve but everything since I have not enjoyed. Everything about them is pretty grating nowadays.

Seriously, a rocket launcher? Wow. That's the shit right there; you're all about the business. I guess I agree with you in that it's not a phenomenal song, but what's horrible about it? I dont hear a 3rd Eye Blind or Match Box Twenty tune in there. They're doing their thing, and what's wrong with that? There's other songs from that event that are much better than that, and I'm pretty sure they've been posted.

lyrically, musically, conceptually.

there are plenty of bands out there trying interesting shit out,
subverting song structure & sound, improvising their asses off, writing lyrics that actually stick with me, performing their songs in different ways
from concert to concert.

I heard them once before from a link posted probably early in this thread. I just saw two girls doing some half-hearted rapping and forgot about them. Ignored anything said about them on this board because I had no opinion whatsoever.
