Tseng Kwong Chi is a new addition to my favorites. His self-portraits from his East Meets West series are pretty incredible.

I'm surprised only one person has mentioned Cartier-Bresson. I know he's the obvious choice but, fuck, could he take a picture.

This, however, might be my favourite photo:

If anyone in Boston is interested, there's a cool exhibition opening next week:

Tseng Kwong Chi
Ambiguous Ambassador

August 29 - September 29, 2007

Reception: September 7th, 5:30 - 7:30pm

Bernard Toale Gallery
450 Harrison Avenue Boston MA 02118
http://www.bernardtoalegallery.com
617-482-2477
Tuesday - Saturday 10:30 - 5:30pm

Full disclosure: I work for the Tseng estate, but even if I didn't, I'd encourage people to see this show. His work is pretty great.

I'm hijacking this thread to sort of toot my own horn.

Since August, I've been working on an exhibition for Tseng Kwong Chi. It's finally opening!

So I'm letting you guys know about it. I hope you get a chance to see it. It takes place in New York and London.

New York (100 works)
Paul Kasmin Gallery
293 Tenth Ave.
New York, NY 10001
April 3 thru May 3, 2008
Opening: April 3rd, 6 - 9 pm

London (90 works)
Ben Brown Fine Arts
21 Cork Street
1st Floor
London W1S 3LZ
15 April - 31 May 2008
Opening Times:
Mon - Fri 10AM - 6PM
Sat 10:30AM - 2:30PM

In the New York show, 30 of the works have never been seen before. There's an illustrated catalog of the show too. Since I can't have a solo exhibition yet, this will have to do for me.

yknow due to my interest in film, the "photographers" i'm most familiar with are actually cinematographers or directors of photography. count the stills as their photographs. my two favorites would be christopher doyle and roger deakins.

a good doyle shot:
