Just heard this band yesterday. Listened all day while working and it (the new one) is growing on me, although it's a bit weak in places. "Desire Lines" and "Helicopter" are real strong pieces though.

enframed, try Microcastle or Cryptograms as those kick right from the start. Halcyon takes forever to get really going, and I agree that it's got weak spots.

I start Halcyon Digest on track 5 and it really kicks ass. Great record.

I'm convinced Bradford Cox is a songwriting genius, and Lockett Pundt's are really good, too. Deerhunter somehow steals without offending, in a Stereolab kind of way. I've been listening to their entire catalog (except the OOP first record), something daily at least, and it's interesting to hear their development all at once. I'm not sure there's a single bad song on any of their records. I also think I may not have liked them as much had I not heard Halcyon Digest first. Not sure why that is, exactly, but it feels that way. Deerhunter is very not crap.

I don't really hate or like this band. There's just something extremely generic about their albums. During every listening experience I've had at their expense I walk away feeling like I wasted my time, but not enough for me to hate them or anything.A good deal of my friends like this band, so I really do try my hardest to like it, but it just sounds like zero effort was put into writing their songs. I have this gut feeling they could do better if they tried.I guess If I heard them or anyone that sounded like them at a bar or something I wouldn't mind but I wouldn't necessarily lose my shit over it either.
