We played with these guys a month or two ago, and I second this recommendation. Their set was entirely improvised and it was very good and very noisy. They're also nice folks, which is always a pleasant surprise. I can't believe I forgot to mention them here. We shared the bill with a zydeco band and it was a lot of fun.

The DNTSwede may laugh at me, but I have to name check Kiss Kiss. They are a really cool band out of NY that features a violin player.
