Any tips for recording synth in a room instead of direct? I know that's a broad question as the end result may be "We want fucked up warbles", but wanted to know if there have been some general lessons learned for getting a wide, deep sound

I was messing around with a friend's new EHX Synth 9 pedal last night.
Some of the synth presets had a real low-octave fuzz distortion sound. More distortion than either of us expected.
Is this normal? Any tips for cleaner synth tones from a guitar pedal?

I usually run synths through a little power amp directly into a single 15" cab and mic it with a Shure Beta 52 and sometimes a condenser like a AKG 535 or what ever else I have on hand. I'll always take a DI as well, for if I want to goof with it later. I wouldn't ever mess with stereo mics, but may consider double tracking if I wanted width or goof ball stuff. I've never put up a room mic for synth overdubs, but it could be cool. If it sounds cool coming out of an amp, just put a mic in front of it.

Hmm, I've used that pedal a ton, and haven't noticed that EXCEPT on the solo synth setting, where the gain is pretty hot, but I was generally running it into amps that are already somewhat dirty/gritty (and mostly w/ bass).
I love that pedal a lot but some setting either sound great right off the bat with minimal tweaking (the Poly VI setting is great and my band used it on a bunch of our record) or would take me a lot of knob twisting to get something I liked.

Anyone have any experience with Lindy Fralin Wide Range Humbuckers and a Blues Special bridge pickups?
What about Lollar Regal wide range humbucker?
Like, hate, etc?

I really liked the Lollar Regal I added to the MIM '72 Tele Thinline I had. Bridge pickup only, just to start with, and being able to switch between the two pickups confirmed it was an upgrade. However I didn't realize my actual problem with the guitar was that the pots should be 1Meg for a pickup of that type. With Jazzmasters we tend to knock the traditional 1M pots down to 500K, but imo Wide Range-style pickups really benefit from the higher value. But I didn't learn any of this til the guitar had been sold to fund a vacation.
Bandmate just bought a '72 Thinline and I need to give him the same heads-up before I forget. I should really just go door-to-door to be on the safe side.

Unless I am remembering this all wrong, this fellow was a member back in the "MKI..." days. Pretty "Board..." demo of the Creamery version of said pickup(even if it is crammed into a Jazzmaster cover...) -

Fender also reissued it a year or two ago with the CuNiFe magnets. I have not compared prices.
