If you go the Warmoth route you're gonna have to be patient as well, they're crazy backed up right now as far as I know.
FWIW I have a new player series Jaguar and 4 new Charvels, all made at the same factory in Mexico and they're all excellent, really good build quality on all of them.
FWIW pt2, I have Fralins in my strat and they sound killer. KILLER.
Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
692I have a friend who has questionable taste, but LOVES his Fralins, so I have been down the video well driving myself crazy. They do sound good to my ears from what I can tell via listening online. These and the Creamery are the ones that stand out along with the Fender reissued ones.MoreSpaceEcho wrote: Tue Feb 22, 2022 10:24 am If you go the Warmoth route you're gonna have to be patient as well, they're crazy backed up right now as far as I know.

Warmoth...I can wait, my big concern is I am notorious for not keeping guitars and the resale value on a Warmoth while probably an amazing player might not trade well..not that I am planning to get rid of it, I just know my history.

693I think those 1M pots would really do the thing and be worth the hassle.tommy wrote: Tue Feb 22, 2022 10:23 amGotcha. I picked up a thinskin AVRI 72 Thinline recently where someone swapped out the pickups for the new Fender reissues but left in the 250K pots for some reason. One of these days I'm going to replace those pots with 1M.Owen wrote: Tue Feb 22, 2022 10:13 amYeah this is where I am. I got skunked out of a REALLY good deal (like fucking stupid good) on a vintage 1974 Telecaster Custom. I know I am not going to find a deal that good anytime soon, which lead me to the Fender American Original's with the reissued CuNiFe. BUT they are charging more for the reissue than I could have paid for an original 74 and my brain hates that.tommy wrote: Tue Feb 22, 2022 9:26 am
Fender also reissued it a year or two ago with the CuNiFe magnets. I have not compared prices.
Fender sells the CuNiFe neck pickup for $200ish and I am trying to decide if I should just get a MiM custom and install that, or cough up more money on an American...or go the Warmoth route, or just be patient and wait.

694Yeah, resale is a concern with Warmoth. They can also get pretty expensive awfully fast, depending on how fancy you go with your wood/finish choices.Owen wrote:Warmoth...I can wait, my big concern is I am notorious for not keeping guitars and the resale value on a Warmoth while probably an amazing player might not trade well..not that I am planning to get rid of it, I just know my history.
Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
695If I were you, I'd get a Classic Vibe custom (or deluxe) and do the Fender CuNiFe.
I did a build with one of those new Fender WRHB pickups and I love it. I put it in the bridge with a tele neck pickup in the neck. For some reason I think I used a 500k pot, which is weird cuz Fender says to use 1M, and I would have followed their recommendation, but I just don't totally remember. Anyway, those pickups sound lovely and I would totally recommend them. They look so fucking cool too.

Pretty "Board..." demo of the Creamery version of said pickup(even if it is crammed into a Jazzmaster cover...) -
Manson, noted for sure.
I grabbed those pickups based on his demo and still have and love 'em. The neck especially but the other as well and I've never been much of a bridge guy. I do find myself there sometimes with the right pedal combo though. Crammed them into a Jazzblaster. Def recommended.
Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
697Great - that's about exactly what I was going to do - running it through a gk400 into a 1x15 + 1x10 cab. Thanks nice to know it's worth doingKniferide wrote: Fri Feb 18, 2022 10:36 amI usually run synths through a little power amp directly into a single 15" cab and mic it with a Shure Beta 52 and sometimes a condenser like a AKG 535 or what ever else I have on hand. I'll always take a DI as well, for if I want to goof with it later. I wouldn't ever mess with stereo mics, but may consider double tracking if I wanted width or goof ball stuff. I've never put up a room mic for synth overdubs, but it could be cool. If it sounds cool coming out of an amp, just put a mic in front of it.TylerDeadPine wrote: Fri Feb 18, 2022 9:31 am Any tips for recording synth in a room instead of direct? I know that's a broad question as the end result may be "We want fucked up warbles", but wanted to know if there have been some general lessons learned for getting a wide, deep sound

698Turn your guitar volume down see if it's just slamming the input hard - if not, try a boss tuner in front of it see if it's being loaded weirdlyTeacher's Pet wrote: Fri Feb 18, 2022 9:54 am I was messing around with a friend's new EHX Synth 9 pedal last night.
Some of the synth presets had a real low-octave fuzz distortion sound. More distortion than either of us expected.
Is this normal? Any tips for cleaner synth tones from a guitar pedal?

699The neck pickup may also be the one to use, if it’s been having this problem on the bridge.TylerDeadPine wrote: Wed Feb 23, 2022 11:27 amTurn your guitar volume down see if it's just slamming the input hard - if not, try a boss tuner in front of it see if it's being loaded weirdlyTeacher's Pet wrote: Fri Feb 18, 2022 9:54 am I was messing around with a friend's new EHX Synth 9 pedal last night.

700Anyone know of a pedal that does the EHX Clone Theory thing but in a smaller footprint than the current reissue? I love how the pedal sounds, wouldn't mind having a smaller one on the board.
