I think that title goes to the classic incarnation of Mayhem.

Not safe for work, or much else.

Varg's getting out of jail soon.

Word.

Gorgoroth is probably the scariest and most legit Black Metal band ever.

Nothing too scary here.

Though I do enjoy a little black metal every now and then, I hardly find any of it scary. More posturing than anything else. I mean, there's a dude in Immortal who can't even keep his fly zipped during photoshoots. Maybe I'm too cynical, but it just seems like a way to get attention more than an actual way of life.

But hey, I'll admit that they are really successful PR people. How many of us would have even heard about Burzum if Varg hadn't turned himself into a little media darling?

I was mainly talking about Gorgoroth's music.

I wish I could've been at the live show in Poland they're getting prosecuted for now. I guess when you have naked, bloodied men and women passing out and having seizures tied to crosses on stage, that shit could get your burned.

watching this creepy ass 5 parter with the new singer of Gorgoroth didn't help to make them seem sane at all. Although I still dig this band. If you have nothing to do, I suggest watching this. It's pretty crazy to hear about Ghaal's life in Norway as a child to now. His paintings are actually really good as well:

Here's the first part. The rest are in links off to the side as I'm sure you know:

Gyorgi Ligeti, especially the parts of Lux Aeterna that are on the 2001 soundtrack, give me the creeps every time I hear it.

Jandek and Scott Walker scare me too, but I enjoy getting scared by them.

Falling in-and-out of sleep while listening to Nurse With Wound's "The Schmurz" is a trip. You wake-up disoriented, swimming in sound. The best songs to get mentally fucked by are the epic ones. The ones that will allow you the time to feel safe.

Bass Communion (Porcupine Tree dude's "ambient" solo stuff) has a CD called Ghosts on Magnetic Tape that supposedly incorporates EVP with spooky drones.

Skinny Puppy - Too Dark Park
King Diamond - Abigail

both of these albums have given me nightmares. The latter did so right there in broad daylight.

I've made a few records like this (judging by the description) and they haven't just scared people, they've murdered people.

Think about that for a second.

The Flaming Lips - Hit to Death in the Future Head. Not really scary in and of itself, but if you make the mistake of putting this one on to fall asleep to you will be jolted awake about 20 minutes after it ends by the most horrifying 'hidden track' ever. This has scared the shit out of me, actually more than once. You think I'd have figured it out after the first time. Despite this, probably my favorite Flaming Lips record.

Steely Dan. So fucking creepy. They are the musical equivalent of the serial killer who slowly slits your parents' throats, wipes his dick across the faces of their corpses, and sends you the above incident on video just to fuck with you. Seriously, go listen to "Ricky Don't Lose That Number" and try to keep that image from your mind. No really, go ahead. I can wait.

As for something that's both scary AND awesome -- the song "Sycamore Trees" from the soundtrack for Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. I find the combination of the fluttering upright bass technique and Jimmy Scott's vocals really incredible, and unnerving.
