my best friend in high school was from ukraine; she moved to my town in 7th grade. her name was julia. everyone thought it was cool as hell that she had no middle name, and when we'd go over to her house after school her mom left plates of homemade pierogi for us to snack on (!), and she'd leave quick "i'll be back in time for dinner"-type notes for her parents in ukrainian. later when she went to college she decided to go back to her "real" name, which was yulya. i felt betrayed! all those years i didn't even know julia wasn't her real name...
i don't like my middle name, and i'm not so keen on this seemingly southern thing where 25% of the people you encounter go by their middle name and always have. that said, with my middle name my full legal name is soon going to have an x, y, and a z in it. that's pretty cool.
