Eating: Vegetarianism

First let me say that I'm a vegetarian but not for any reason other than I've never had the desire to eat meat. I can't explain of defend my position beyond this, so just accept it for what it is. People eating meat doesn't offend me and I think vegans are crazy people.

Mr. Chimp, he done wrote:Vegetarianism is only crap if you are not eating what you want.

this should have been the end of any and all argument.

I am a vegitarian, and It doesn't bother me in the least when other people eat meat mostly because enough people are doing that job for me.

I, however, would go vegan if it were not for my disinterest and my desire for three hundred dollar shoes.

I don't want an SUV, though. There are far more stylish cars.
...act fast, while the rates are low...

Plain and simple, I like food. All of it.
Put a big, steamin' plate of haggis in front of me and I'll say "bring on the tatties and neeps" while waiting for the Malt to pour.
I rarely get the chance to eat Angels on Horseback, but what could be better than a big-ass scallop wrapped in bacon?
Damn, I say.
HELLS yes, even.

I've got no problem with vegetarians. I'm glad my wife isn't one because we never have to compromise on any meals. Shit, choclate soy milk is pretty great, I just don't want to live on it.

I think we need to look at how we *raise* meat. Cow farts seem to be blowing a hole in the ozone layer and the only good thing hormone fed beef produces are extra-chesty coeds.

We tend to buy our meat from quality sources. I don't eat shitty quality vegetables so why eat bad meat? That's what it comes down to for me: quality, including "of life".
If you can live on plants, I have no problem with you, but I have no interest in doing it. My portions are usually small, but I miss it when it's not there.

Not to get all Nugent, but as cities take over the country, animals like deer don't get enough to eat, which is probably the cruelest way for them to go. That makes us de facto gamekeepers. I take free venison anytime a good old boy will give it to me. He can't hunt without me, and dig the hell out of his quarry.
That, my friends, is symbiosis.

I've only read three posts in this topic, scanning the rest. So, forgive me if I'm responding to things that have already been covered.
There are some stooopid arguments here. The idea of plants having a life force, yeah, that's great, but the reason I (and many others) don't eat animals is because they are sentient. Please post anecdotal studies here suggesting that plants can feel pain.javascript:emoticon('')
Then, pointing out that someone who is vegetarian wears clothing made from animals. Oh, what a hypocrite! Therefore, the entire motive for being a vegetarian is undermined! Yeah. And more so, ever heard of a fallacy ad hominem?
Trite.

i was vegetarian for 6 years - and i only quit because i knew i wasn't eating right. (suppliments are key)...oh yeah, and my addiction to sushi....and seafood in general.

i stopped eating meat because it makes me ill - the only thing i can handle is fish - sometimes chicken and/or turkey, that's it.

not crap in any way - i still enjoy vegetarian dishes over dishes containing meat and day

I have been vegetarian for over 18 years, strict vegan for 2. I have never taken vitamins or suplaments. If you base your diet around a variety of vegetables, you don't have to. It's only the people who eat mac n' cheese every meal that become sickly vegetarians and give the rest of us a bad name.

I'd like to make the point that one can live a very healthy life without meat, eggs or dairy. However, go on an all meat diet, and see how you feel in a month.
