The one thing that I didn’t get to work is the Presonus Faderport V2. Was anyone able to get it to work with Reaper on a window 11 PC?
I installed Presonus universal control software and was able to update the faderport. It also appears in the Reaper preferences as either midi device or controller device. At one point the fader did some crazy up and down moves, but that’s about it.
I had a Faderport a long time ago and remember there being some sort of silly thing you had to do to get it working.

Here is the link to a thread about it.

I did this yesterday, didn't work. Faderport worked fine with Windows 10 (pretty sure I used the midi device, not the control device.

Don't you have to configure it in Reaper to assign its MIDI outputs to certain actions? I remember having to do that with my Tascam FW1884.

Looks like there's a pretty active thread over here: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=267116
yes, plugged directly into USB3 port. I actually also tried with a hub and into USB2 port.
when it works, it's simply plug and play, I didn't have to configure anything.

thanks for the link. I'll check that out!

Do you have access to your old reaper.ini file from your old PC? If you replaced your new one with that, it would load your old configurations and you could see if that fixes it.

I’ll see if I can find the ini file in my backup copy.
I can also check my PC at the practice space, as I had the Faderport installed there too.
Then I will look into the thread you linked. The one I found was a couple of years old.
Thanks!

Installing that ReaSonus file worked.
the Faderport has to be disabled but not ignored as midi device.
then enabled as a controller.
nice, thanks!

I think I should start with this question here. It's for assholes, after all.

I have a mixer (this one https://mackie.com/en/products/mixers/p ... P6DdGlX3A4 )running off USB fed from my computer to some speakers. There are input options.

Are there plugins for Reaper I can use to simulate a guitar amp? Completely new to this. I assume there are, I've just never done it. If not, what separate program do I need to just clumsily ape a guitar amp? Nothing spectacular.

Guitar Rig 6 has a free version that has a couple of effects and a Plexi-style amp sim.

I think Reaper has some JS plugins built-in that are their versions of amp sims but they’re not particularly robust or all that great. I believe they are there, though.

I like the Karzrog Airline VST and it is cheap.
https://kazrog.com/products/airline-v15 ... t4kAQO3Ta1
they do sales all the time.

But yeah there are a ton of plugins to do guitar amps buy companies like Waves, Neural, Ik Media, or you can buy the Line 6 Helix plugin, but all of those are kinda spendy.

Before they were really a thing, I would build guitar rigs out of plugin chains like Comp>Saturation>EQ>IR loader for Speaker IR's>Convolution Reverb and I will argue that you can kinda get any guitar sound you want with that if you want to spend a ton of time fucking around with plugins.

Another thing you can do is buy any amp sim pedal like the UA pedals, the little TC. Electronics Deluxe reverb pedal, Helix etc and just plug into it into your IO.

This dude's stuff is free and good:

https://nickcrowlab.blogspot.com/

You'll need an IR loader after the amp for speaker sims, I use NadIR from STL tones, it's also free and apparently their amp is too, scroll down to the bottom here:
