Since I last checked this thread it seems that in some small way the world has become insane.

Let me just square things up for y'all a bit.

1) Tweez is actually a bit shit.
2) It's ok to admit that Tweez is actually a bit shit.

Thank you for that.

Absolute bollocks. Tweez is one of the best albums released in the 80's. Spiderland is a pop record by comparison.

Can something be "one of the best" "by a long way"?

Anyway, I think you're coming at Slint from an entirely different angle to most (at least here). I don't know what it is that you think is great about Slint, but it's not what I think is great about them.

I don't really understand your 'pop' comment; Tweez is noisier I guess but it's bland and tiresome.

I guess if you just want to ROCK then Tweez is 'better'.

Bitch Magnet and Gore both did the post-metal (tm) thing far, far better than Tweez-era Slint though.

hahah it looks just like we're arguing over whether tweez is better than spiderland. so funny.

btw, i think expolions in the sky sound much more like mogwai than the band responsible for tweez and spiderland.

Listen to Tweez till you understand it, seriously, put it on an ipod or something if you have one and keep listening till it clicks. It is an awesome record, it's as much about classical and jazz (harmony- not improv) as it is about hardcore and metal. I used to prefer spiderland, then some people that really know music told me tweez was better so I just listened to it till I understood it. Now every time I play spiderland I just think it isn't a patch on tweez, like listening to anything by the beatles that isn't rubber soul or revolver, but that is fine, I can just stick tweez on and marvel at it's genius. It's scary good and I don't know how they came up with it at that age.

I think spiderland is like a pop record because it's so easy to follow all the way through and the lyrics are all nice little stories etc. Tweez appeals to my love of classical, jazz, metal, hardcore and 'avant garde' styles all in one go, with lots of cryptic lyrics. It continually amazes me, spiderland doesn't. I like stuff that 'confuses' me each time I play it, after all, music is just illusions, if they aren't clever illusions, just parlor tricks, then it doesn't appeal. Tweez always holds new surprises, plus I think the music is just miles better :)

That makes them even worse, Mogwai are a watered down Slint, EITS are a doubly watered down Slint. At least Mogwai managed one essential album.

'Tweez' is an incredible album.

This doesn't detract from the brilliance of 'Spiderland'.

I'm not trying to say it's bad or anything, it isn't, and I still think it's a great record, in the same way I'm not saying everything other than Revolver and RS are bad cause they aren't, it's just every time I play the others, I think very good, but...

Mogwai is head and shoulders better than most other post-rock bands. I don't suscribe to this theory that Slint is responsible for all music ever made since Spiderland.
