I just got a 28” china cymbal as a “fuck it” purchase, so I’m not gonna crap on anyone’s silly gear purchases!
Re: Gear: TALK ME OUT OF IT or JUSTIFY MY PURCHASE?
813It’s definitely a textural/soundscape mallet instrument more than an invert and overplay on metal songs cymbal.
Mostly I was kinda intrigued by a very attractive bronze-to-dollar ratio, and expect these are gonna go up in price soon

814Even that gave me a bit of sticker shock. I remember when Wuhans were $60, granted those were more standard sizes.
But yeah.. tech and death metal drummers should probably start marching in the streets.

Re: Gear: TALK ME OUT OF IT or JUSTIFY MY PURCHASE?
817I had to move my pedals onto my bigger board and so I have a little more wiggle room per pedal. I put my Joyo AC Tone in place of my trusty OD-3 as my main dirtier/loudener and really liked what I heard—I’m a sucker for jangly-yet-dirty tones a la Weller et al). Now I’m wondering if I should look for a Tech 21 Liverpool V2, mostly for better build quality (I’ve had an AC Tone die on me in the past randomly) and for the speaker emulation defeat switch.
Should I go down this path? Or look for a different Vox-in-a-Box? Or suck it down and stick with the OD-3 that has served me well for so long?
(I’ve tried two other Vox-flavoured pedals in the past, Vox’s own Mystic Edge and the Tone City Black Tea, itself a clone of the Carl Martin AC Tone [no relation to the Joyo]. The former sounded great but had a real flabby low end, and the Black Tea didn’t really sound good at all and had a weird ambient noise I couldn’t dial out.)
