I don't understand why more people haven't mentioned Philly. They have such a complex about New York. I think somebody once told Philadelphians that New Yorkers were rude, and Philly said, "Well, I guess we'll have to be rude AND ignorant."

They had to put a magistrate's office INSIDE Veteran's Stadium, so their sport's fans could be arrested, then processed before the 2-minute warning.

I really don't like Philadelphia.

I moved here a year ago. I've just gotten over the culture shock. Junkies, trash, weird tropical/arctic weather patterns, white rednecks stuck in a west virginia meets new jersey mindset, tons of frat boys and sorority girls, progress measured in terms of chain restaurants, annoying as shit ice cream trucks, nicotined haggard women with split ends, rats, etc.

I've been there many times as my stepmother is from there. Her dad was the mayor for a time in the 70s. He gave us a tour of the downtown area, pointing out certain neigborhoods and landmarks. His claim to fame were the "cultural festivals." He didn't really explain what they were. Downtown, as mentioned earlier, is totally desolate and eerie. The suburbs are sketchy and it just seems like most people ignore each other. I had never seen housing projects before (im from the west coast) and was totally horrified by them. Detroit is cold and dead.

Lake Havasu City, AZ.

Fucking worst conservative, gun toting, truck driving, boat owning shithole I've ever been. I slept in my truck in an albertsons parking lot and was awoken at 7 AM by the flood of huge lifted trucks pulling up to the breakfast place on the corner. The surroundings are the most desolate I've ever seen, NO VEGETATION. Desert people occupy a headspace virtually opposite of mine, I don't get it at all.

Nuees Ardentes and The Difference Engine are from Mobile. If you don't think they are good bands... I can't help you. Two great bands, though. I like Mobile much better than the sack of shit that Pensacola is.

Any town in the southern part of the US pretty much sucks, mainly because they are filled with dumb ass people from the south...but Atlanta just sucks it real hard.

Having lived in both Jackson, MI and Saginaw, MI, I'd have to say that Saginaw is an appreciably worse city than Jackson. As hideous as Jackson is (and these days it's just plain sad), Saginaw is even uglier and more racist, and I can't imagine a single decent reason for going there.

While Eaton Rapids, MI isn't all that awful, it does have one remarkable distinction -- I have never seen more ugly people in one town in all my life. The gene pool is shallow and deeply polluted there, my friends.

And while I feel a certain empathy for the tragedy that is Detroit, I must say that something fucked-up ALWAYS happens when I go there. As a result, I only go there under certain circumstances (i.e. Mission of Burma or Radio Birdman playing there).
