I can't believe I am letting this thread drag me back to this board
Ten new-ish acts I think are great, that I think are doing new things:
The Thing
FME
Signal To Trust
ft(shadow government)
Excepter
Country Teasers (ok not so new)
Chris Corsano-Paul Flaherty
The Seawhores
Tornavalanche
Konono No1
all these groups have released something in the past yr (or will soon be releasing somthing) that I think is incredible, that really excites me, that I can't stop listening to
this is not to mention nomeansno, peter brotzmann, the ex, shellac, the new year, etc, etc, etc that are still putting out great music, to my ears, anyway

I thought there was no good music, so I formed a band. We are my ideal band. We are great. So, while I'm sure that anyone who isn't me/in my band might think we're a lot of pish, I'm happy.
Moral: if you're tired of music, start a band?

i just thought of something... what if this band was really just
The Sonics, but the DJ had a horrible speech impediment?

I haven't found much to like about to music created after 1995. But, I'm an old bastard. There have been some things here and there that I like. I guess I wasn't made for these times, and I'm not part of the target audience in any case. I find myself looking to 60's/'70's hippie music as the Godsmacks, Disturbeds, and Linkin Parks can't hold a candle to the music I loved in my youth. I feel like an Elvis fan in 1977.
I do love the Weakling album, for some compelling reason.
