Chicago folks, where do you take your amps for service? My dude retired and my old Orange needs a checkup.

I can say do not go to Deltronics, they did a number on my old Epiphone and it took them forever to do it wrong.

I also had a TERRIBLE experience w/ them. Dudes completely effed me a few years back. I was making a special trip out to the far west burbs to drop off a machine on a Saturday. They said they'd be there to receive it. I was running a little late so was making up time and an Indiana state cop got me for a really, really bad ticket - ok, sure that's really on me and not them but still bitter AF for it. I still got there well-within the agreed-upon time window and no one was there. Waited an hour to see if someone would show. No one answering phone.

My comms w/ them were like "hey where the fuck were you, do you know what I went through to get there in time?" Their response was "yeah we were waiting for you last weekend and you didn't show up" and of course I replied with "then why didn't you call and ask me or even just reply back to the email about me being a no show? Either way, if you scroll up, very clear we agreed on THIS weekend." No response. Between ticket, tolls, & gas that was a VERY expensive trip to nowhere.

Never taken an amp here (only acoustic guitar) but Balti is a good dude, probably worth a call at least:

I use the Woodridge IL location and it has been 50/50. If there are any recommendations on a electronic repair shops in the Chicago land area I would love to know.

I asked them to do a recap and put in a grounded plug on a 63 Epiphone Pathfinder and after they gave it back it would periodically shock the player(pretty fucking bad) and have random buzz and hum... Eventually the power transformer gave out and I took it to a dude here in Portland. The called me as soon as he opened it and said "Someone really fucked up here!" he replace and fixed every thing but he said it was a total mess. Also, before I took the amp to Deltronics, nobody had EVER been inside the amp. Total under-bed beauty. They really shit the bed and had the amp for like 3 months. $350, no recap he could find AT ALL and the grounded plug was wired wrong/blew the transformer. Fuck Deltronics. They were also dicks every time I called them. Another $550 later and the amp is F'n great.

This small stone is kind of intermittant - there looks to be some brown sort of gunk on the board here. Anything abnormal here?

Still sorting out if I have a battery problem, but I don’t think it is.

Edit: had to upload to some random website and this board doesn’t really work on my phone. Here’s a direct link

Looks like some of the component leads weren't trimmed closely and got mashed down onto some PCB traces - could that be a culprit?

I’m glad you have an eye for that stuff because I don’t!

I guess I should have noted the problem

With the first battery I used, the effect (not signal) was intermittent, only operable at the lower part of the dial, color switch turned off the effect but again not the signal.

I switched batteries and it seemed to work after some finagling, but I just bought this damn thing. It shouldn’t be having problems this soon, so I’m wondering if I should just return it. It is an old effect, I suppose I’ll just do a bunch more testing to make sure I’m not returning something for a battery

It sounds like a problem of intermittent connection to me. Definitely check to make sure that you have a new battery, but otherwise dont assume its that. Changing the battery involves moving around wires that may affect intermittent connections. Try wiggling all the wires while playing and see if anything changes.
