For those who might be interested, here is a link to a recent gig (in Philadelphia I think) of the japanese drone/stoner/heavy band BORIS.

BORIS
9i just got back from the nyc BORIS / SUNN 0))) show...
i have seen a lot of shows in my day (granted, i'm only 23, but still)... this one was BY FAR the loudest show i've ever witnessed. i don't know why i wasn't expecting it, but i was right up front with no ear plugs and i hope this ringing is gone come morning.
mono's double guitar/bass guy plays through a model-t with an 8x12 stack, as well as an ampeg 8x10 stack. the model-t screams so loud. the female guitarist plays through an orange amp with two orange cabs (4x12 each?). the drummer's set wasn't even miked, he played loud enough for all to hear.
absolutely deafening. BORIS has made the list of bands that i must see whenever i can. this is a slim list. but BORIS earned their spot tonight.
sunn was insane in a different way. there were four guitarists and a bassist on stage (one guy was the opening act, OREN AMBARCHI), all amps were sunn or orange, with two rows of 4x12 cabs that literally left no room on stage. boris' drummer invoked the spirit of the gong throughout sunn's set. plus, they all dress like druids. kinda funny. in a sad way.
