Given the abysmal employment rates in recording studios that is, of either graduates or attendees of such institutions, anyone who takes a honest interest in your future should dissuade you from such a notion. On the other hand, a generalized concentration in the technology of audio equipment - an EE degree, is a very smart educational objective. Flexibility is the key- and if the wages at the local studio don't pay the bills - which veterans of the "industry" will attest - working on something like digital signal processing, satellite data compression algorithms, or semiconductor fabrication probably will.

You're going to hear great things and awful things about recording schools in general. That matter is completely off-topic. If you want to find a good school in your area, see if you can get on some of their message boards or something, talk to people, feel it out. Don't look into the AES website, their standard response is: We don't endorse anything. Which is fine, except for when you're not asking for endorsements.
This is going to get worse before it gets any better.
