? about AD converters

I've heard all of the bashing of 888's.....i was wondering, I have a Apogee AD-8000 and a 888 slaved to it. Does being slaved to the better converter improve the 888's quality at all? An engineer told me this but I don't understand how.

Generally speaking...
An AD/DA's accuracy is tied to the quality of the clock. If you improve upon a unit's clock source, all things equal, you will potentially improve upon the accuracy of the conversion.

In your specific case, many users claim the 888 DEFINITLEY benefits from a high quality word clock. That Apogee is such a clock.

Or so the general thinking goes...then there are some who believe nothing is more accurate than any given unit's internal clock...Dan Lavry who designs some of the most highly regarded AD/DAs is one of those persons.

Here is some interesting infomation.
