Since, we're on the subject.....................
What's standard in the "Fending-Off-Looters" selection?
Legal issues?
Concealed weapons permits?
I think it's the combination of this new Neil Young album and CBob's threads.............
Thanks (I think).

2i'm not trying to flame anyone but sometimes i really do think america is just the same old wild west with ipods and laptops...
honestly it seems like getting a gun would be easier for a kid than buying a ten box of cigarettes, maybe this is media scaremongering but there's got to be some truth to these stories?
fucked up...

6Cut out the middle man.
Rather than buy the gun, why not save the money and when the looters (wtf?) come, give it to them.
Then you've spent the same amount of money and no one got shot/went to prison.

7My advice is: Don't.
But, if you're just making conversation, Tex,
then we can do that.
Unless you're going to practice shooting extensively
at a range, then a handgun is not the way to go.
No, what you need is a good point and shoot fire-stick.
The Mossberg 590 pump-action, 12 gauge shotgun is both
cheap and scary looking:
With the 9 shot capacity.
Concealed weapons are for pussies and psychos; get
it registered and leave it at home

9When I lived in Chicago, I got my FOID (Firearm Owner Identification for you non-IL/US folks) card but never used it. This was because in the relative density of the city, things seemed oddly safe, and our house was alarmed. Now, living in another place that is father out in the country, we have purchased a couple of arms and learned to use them well.
Letting the police handle it is a grave mistake. The police never helped me when I was in trouble in Chicago (several occasions) - they ran away when I tried to flag them down while being chased by carloads of gang members. At one point, I lived in an area controlled by the Latin Kings and there is an obvious disconnect with the police as to where and how they enforce law and order. Out in the country, they will take too long to get here even if they want to help.
Meth and oxycontin addiction are out of control in this country, and it has devastated some of the most peaceful and bucolic communities I have known. These drugs can change people into monsters, and coming from the counterculture that is saying a *lot*. Example: my cousin lives in a town in the mountains with a population of 375. He had an attempted carjacking in a hollow where every family knows every other family. He knew his attackers well (former friends prior to the drug use) - didn't matter...but he was armed, so he lived and kept his car. In this part of the country, people's houses are taken apart and sold as scrap for money to supply a habit while the owners are at work, on a fairly regular basis.
We are not gun-toting psychopaths, but there are plenty of them out there and woe be upon you if they find you unprepared. We try not to kill insects around the house, but if a drug-crazed redneck kicks in our door I won't think twice.
