Hi there, i'm interested in adding a budget ribbon mic to my collection and I am interested in buying a Beyer M260. After reading about them, I found one person who claimed that later versions (called the M260.80) have a crappy output transformer which results in a large bass roll-off. They said they were getting their output transformer replaced. I've checked the Beyer guide and it says that the M260.80 has a bass roll-off and is suitable for recording in reverberant environments.
Does anybody know anything about this? Should I avoid the later version with the bass roll-off, or is this a good thing?
Thanks.
Beyer M260 Ribbon Microphones......Bass Roll-Off?
2The 260.80 has an 80hz hi-pass filter.
I think it's mostly used for broadcast, in windy or otherwise microphone unfriendly environments......
but i've never used it myself.
