My first pick is Neil Young, of course, subtle as fuck rhythm player, and the king of the one note solo....

Agreed, was listening to '74 Jailbreak this morning. Malcolm NEVER EVER gets mentioned.

This will basically be a thread populated solely by rhythm guitarists.

Elvis Costello (underrated as a guitarist, not as a singer-songwriter). He's got some really interesting guitar parts low in the mix on some earlyish songs.

David Byrne/Jerry Harrison

First 2-3 records, some great locked-in guitar interplay. The first record of "The Name Of This Band Is..." live album is killer. Before Robert Fripp/Adrian Belew/8 gazillion overdubs were drafted in. I like that stuff as well, but the early stuff is ace - a really tight two guitar band
