what is your favourite conspiracy theory?

I don't necessarily believe many/most/if any but I find them fascinating to read about all the same.

Currently doing some light research on the whole HIV doesn't cause AIDS thing. According to a lot of people, some of them reasonably respected (nobel prize winners etc.) there is no scientific proof that HIV is linked to AIDS.

hell, even dave grohl puts on awareness/fundraising shows for organisations who believe this.

I read something somewhere recently (and I'm paraphrasing here) that there is supposedly some kind of flaw in human reasoning, some kind of bug in our software that makes conspiracy theories so attractive.

Anybody hear or read anything about this? I've been googling but haven't found the study/article I think I'm looking for.

Yesterday I was googling this topic and found a very seemingly serious paper that addressed some of these theories on why we find conspiracy so attractive but then it went on to "prove" that the JFK magic bullet theory had validity. This wasn't quite what I was looking for.

But I have to say the evidence "for" the magic bullet is pretty convincing.

I love driving people crazy about the "We never landed on the moon" its surprising how little people know about the lunar landings.

I'll spout off bullshit about "Billions of dollars and all we got is some white guy playing golf? We plan and $$ and execute and the big payoff is GOLF in space?"

Then I pull the whole "And how come we never went BACK?"

People come back to me hours later after doing research to "prove" me wrong.

I just do a mock golf swing, "FORE!"

I'm also a big fan of the 911 buildings were timed implosions, but I never discuss it w/ anyone I just get a kick out of that "theory"
