Young Frankenstein.

A classic.

Why? It's not dated. Blazing Saddles is a close second, but it is very of its time (the '70s).

A lot of Brooks' stuff is just dated. This can be charming...but Young Frankenstein will make sense in every way 100 years from now (you know, seeing as the book is still pertinent 100+ years later).

The cast:
Gene Hackman (in a tiny but memorable role ["I made espresso!"])
Gene Wilder
Teri Garr (so beautiful in this movie)
Peter Boyle
Madeline Kahn
Cloris Leachman
Marty Feldman

All of them are All-Stars. Best Mel movie, easy.

(High Anxiety is also criminally overlooked).

My personal favorite is "Blazing Saddles", because it is the perfect sendup of the western along with being a totally hilarious pisstake of white attitudes towards blacks.

It really is very close for me, almost a tie between "Blazing Saddles", "Young Frankenstein", "The Producers" and "The Twelve Chairs". I think what sets it apart for me is that I could never really see another "Blazing Saddles" coming along, with it's use of the word "nigger" and white fear of the black man, being a perfect way to really show the stupidity of white racial attitudes, yet it would be pretty much totally impossible to pull it off in the same way today.

Here is a synopsis of the movie "The Twelve Chairs". It really is hysterical. Dom DeLuise is over the top funny.

It is well worth watching.

I never realized, until reading this wiki article, that it is actually loosely based on a book of the same name.
