xmas is upon us. i want to hear about all the well intentioned horrible gifts people receive. let's hear it. let's hear about the 2 sizes too big sequined sweatshirt your aunt and uncle got for you and all of your siblings. let's hear about the pack of wooden spoons you got from your wife.
jews: we know your hanukah presents 1-7 sucked. if your 8th gift sucked but was well intentioned let's have it.
in fact. maybe EA should do a gift exchange. sender pays postage. one rule: if you receive a gift you must send a gift, though not necessarily to the same person. in a separate thread, simply post what the item up for exchange is and when that gift is requested enter a new post that says "sold."

my dad and step mother like to be passive aggressive and show their attitudes through christmas presents.
let me start here: over the last few years, it's become a faux pas with them to not only ask what they want, but even tell them what i want. this of course, makes it extremely difficult to buy presents for them, let alone know what the fuck i'm going to get.
so, two years ago, i got a really bad "painting" for my walls. ok, i get the whole idea about buying presents based on what you know about a person. but my dad and step mother barely know anything about me and it shows. why on earth would i want a store-bought, manufactured painting on my wall? i dont' get it. i also got a scarf, one i would never wear. my brother in law got the same scarf. and he and my sister got a variation on the "painting" i got.
last year was even worse. i got a piece of luggage (one piece of luggage, of the small kind). i haven't bothered using it since i have my own luggage that i bought already. my sister got an even shorter stick: they gave her an umbrella with a cat on it and a matching shirt.
these people are not poor. they are practically millionaires. but they say they can't spend more than $75 on my sister and i. oh, and my step mother has 6 sisters and all their kids and husbands. of course, they spoil them. so it's pretty lame all around.
can't wait to see what i get this year. i keep trying to tell them not to get me anything, since i end up usually throwing my presents from them out.
thankfully, my mom is not retarded like this. we send each other wishlists and basically get exactly what we want from each other. usually, we do one thing we think the person likes and another thing we know the other person wants. every one wins and feels loved.

I think this is a great idea. If I can find it, some lucky EAer will be getting the Wallace & Grommit polyester tie I got in 1998's 'Secret Santa' debacle.

I'd show you pictures if my sister didn't immediately throw that shit out when she got home that night. Man, she was livid. It really was insulting. It wasn't like, they got her something they thought she would like. They just got her whatever they came across and didn't give a shit.

The most recent that comes to mind was the purple hoodie with Jimi Hendrix on it.
My mom LOVES chintzy garbage, and thinks everyone else does too.

The requirement for this Secret Santa exchange is that it has to be a shitty gift from this or another year, yes? Because i have something pretty shitty that i'll never use. Maybe one or two more, too.
Last Christmas, part of the little gift bag i got from my grandma was a lemon and an avocado. She wanted me to load up on my antioxidants or something. I don't count that as "shitty," though, because A) My grandma has no money whatsoever and B) it's a gift given out of love, even if it's a little whacked.
