From Pitchfork:
They're baaaaaaack! Japanese psych-noise-crazy-genius-types Boredoms will once again bring the clattering of oh-so-many drums to the States this summer, in a bi-coastal sequel to last year's wildly successful 77BoaDrum event. This time out, they're calling it 88BoaDrum, and performances of the brand new 88-minute composition from Boredoms leader Eye will take place August 8 (8/8/08, you see) in both Los Angeles and Brooklyn, New York.
The Los Angeles event will take place beginning at 8:08 PM PST at the city's famed La Brea Tar Pits, and will feature 88 drummers selected by both the Boredoms and 88Boadrum artistic director Hisham Bharoocha of Soft Circle. The New York event, conducted on behalf of the Boredoms by Brooklyn's own Gang Gang Dance, goes down at 8:08 PM EST at the Williamsburg waterfront.
Both BoaDrums will be free and open to the public, but tickets will be required for entry. They'll be available starting Friday, July 18 at brownpapertickets.com, at L.A.'s Amoeba Records and the L.A. County Museum of Art, or at New York's Other Music and Sound Fix Records. Only one ticket will be available per person.
88BoaDrum is presented by Nike Sportswear, who will bring you the commemorative "88Boadrum NSW Tee collection". Attendees will be able to purchase t-shirts, featuring designs by Eye, that will be hand-screened at the events. UPDATE: The t-shirts are free!
Bringing together the worlds of extreme avant garde music and gigantic athletics corporations? Guess it's a good way to "drum up" sales. (Ba dum dum!)

2I hope their entire stage collapses and every single person involved slides into the tar pits and drowns.
For the sake of the art, of course. I like the Boredoms but this is shark territory. Time to make a sacrifice.

3I think it's pretty awesome that Hisham Bharoocha and Gang Gang Dance are maintaining our country's ties with the Boredoms.
All of these people have been involved with amazing albums which have been put out w/i the last seven or eight years or so.
"Presented by Nike Sportswear"? That's pretty weird.

Eye has worn Nike gear every single time I've ever seen them play. I think he's had some kind of deal with them for a long time.
There was a Nike ad with him in it a few years ago, a picture of him jumping in the air wearing old school air max shoes. Didn't say his name or the band and it was distorted but it was him in the pic.
They make a quality pair of shoes, I see nothing wrong with promoting their shoes if they are giving out free pairs.
Who's going to this? I will be at the LA one, making arrangements right now.

5I would kill to see one of these shows. Sort of like the Branca 100-guitar piece, but for drums, right?

6I am serious, nothing wrong with Nike shoes at all. Very comfortable. Last forever.
Those little kids in the sweatshops sewing these fuckers together get a thumbs up from me, that's quality workmanship if I've ever seen it.

7I worked at the 77 Drums event last year & I gotta say it was the highlight of my summer. I'll try to make this thing. The williamsburg waterfront park is just a wee bit larger than the Fulton Ferry park. But at least even if you don't have a ticket, You can experience the event from the outside of the park much better at this year's park than last years park.

9A lot of people I knew were there for 77. I wish I could go to 88 in NYC but I doubt I can afford it.
