I had never eaten a can of sardines until a few months ago. My girlfriend said her grandfather used to have one can a week, as a special treat, for most of his life. I am particularly fond of the ones in hot sauce or mustard, and cannot stand the ones that simply sit in soybean or other oil. I am kind of creeped out by the long, flexible spine that's usually still inside the fish and try my damnedest not to eat any of it.

What are your feelings on sardines?

Would not. Fuck no.

My dad used to eat them, the thought makes me want to vomit.

I like me some sardines and anchovies.

Just so we're clear, this poll is about sardines as a FOOD item, not a potential sex partner.

I know that's not the way this end of the forum's going lately, and I'm sorry. I think there's already a fish-fucking thread though.

Sardines and other canned fish products (preferably from nations with relatively clean waters..) are excellent things.

I probably eat a can of sardines every week, they're actually a very healthy addition to the diet. I like every variety I had. I ate a can yesterday as a matter of fact, and this particular can had a head in it. Ate the fucker up as it's dead eye stared at me in disbelief. The spines and bones are slightly crrrunchy.. full of calcium.

My favourite brand is "Millionaires" with the wonderful slogan:

I wanted to see what they tasted like.

They were great. V. oily.

I opened a can out of hunger once.

Now I know.

They're best enjoyed on top of Ryvita or other brands of hard rye crackers or flatbreads, I think.

I like them spicy with toast, but not all mashed-up on top of it like roadkill, I want them staying in the tin neatly like little executed soldiers. The packaging is an endless marvel for me too, although I do miss the key you used to roll back the top with-occasionally it would snap off leaving you holding this impenetrable art object, which you could try to destroy with a screwdriver or whatever else was at hand, depending on just how much you really wanted to eat some tinned fish.
