or: how would you go about eliminating everything from a guitar signal except for the pick noise for use as a trigger? i want to trigger something each time a note is plucked...

it's probably a very broad spectrum noise. can you just take the signal straight out of the guitar and trigger based on amplitude? if you've got a clean, uncompressed, undistorted, totally un-effected signal, i would think the attack of the pick should be a really sharp spike in the level relative to the rest of the ring-out.

couldn't you just press a button instead?

Back in my day we used drummers, but I guess those are a bit old-fashioned.

what would you need to know the frequency for? couldn't you just set a gate to only open up on the transient peaks (ie picked notes) and feed that to the sampler?

(just read TMHs post which kinda says the same thing. sorry)

right now i have a low pass filter at like 10hz and then some thing that detects slope. it doesn't work perfect like. what should i do?
