Personally I could listen to reggae all day long. But only for one day of the year.

Same goes for playing it. I got onstage with a reggae band once and jammed for what seemed like an eternity. It was fun but I dont need to ever do that again in my life.

reggae has died a death more absolute than just about any other kind of music

i mean...it's dead! isn't it? as far as new reggae music is concerned. though it got real sick in the late 70s, i think it died for good around the time marley did, coincidence or not.

anyway, i could listen to good reggae forever. for the last three years or so, in particular, i've listened to the _100-600% dynamite_ comps on soul jazz over and over and over again. the first couple in particular are just mindblowingly good. completely, timelessly great.

not crap, cuz "figuring out" the downbeat and all that has helped me understand/ripoff fugazi and all those fred erskine projects i so adore.

reggae - utterly, utterly vile

any kind of music that spawns a lifestyle ruled by paranoid, dope smoking, dread locked, wasted youth hippies should be outlawed.

linton kwesi johnson - beyond great
some dub can be quite good
the rest, like all genres has some hits and a lot more misses.

for L.K.J. alone I give a not crap.

dub is one of the best things to have happened to music ever...

I love good reggae and especially DUB. King Tubby records are so cool.

agreed that the first few soul jazz comps are untouchable.. also great are most of the trojan box sets (a great value at 3 CDs for $13 or so), though there's a good deal of overlap between them

the skatalites' "guns of navaronne" is one of the best things ever made by humans

The CB radio novelty song has not held up too well either.

Try to imagine a reggae version of "Convoy". I tried to do it, and I made myself dizzy.
