He steals them off reporters from the 1920s. Then he removes the little card that says "press" and Robert's your auntie's live-in lover.

I've allways wondered how Eddie Vedder keeps such a silky nice skin.
It's like he doesn't age at all.
Any info on that?

i remember that place. I was going to buy a hat there for my old man to match his Lincoln. But then those hats costed 300 dollars. More than a salary at the Dry Cleaners could allow. I'd get one for him now, but I think having a hat that cool would drive him back to drinking.

Well, this has nothing to do with where Steve gets his hats. But if you are looking for a hat and you are in Chicago, "Hats Plus" on Irving Park near the Six Corners (Milwaukee and some other street that I don't quite remember) is a Jim Dandy. They've got lots of hats.
There's something great about going to a hat store. So many stores sell everything under the sun that it's very interesting to see a store specialize in something whose time has come and went. It's the kind of feeling I get going to a typewriter shop. It's like those Japanese soldiers who were stuck in the caves on some island who were never told that WWII had ended, so they kept fighting.
Okay, time to nurse my hangover some more.
cheers,
allen

sonneck:
I own a number of very marvelous hats, including a brown, short-brimmed corduroy fedora and a white fur pork-pie hat. These I acquired completely by accident. The former was given to me by a friend whose father was going to throw it away! She said, "don' throw it away, Dave will wear it!" And he didn't. And I do. Often.
I acquire much of my clothing in this manner.
As for the latter, I simply found it in my Grandpa's attic, and thought it was cool. He thought it was hideous, so said, "take it."
Other ways in which I have acquired hats have included Goodwill and the Salvation Army (though those are a bit of a game of hit-and-miss). If you're in the Chicago area, there are a billion and a half Antique shops in the area, what with the North Shore folk and all: you'll be able to find SOMETHING in one of those. Also depending on where you are, there's a great mega-goodwill-type-place called Value Village in Racine, Wisconsin (just south of Milwaukee). I'm not sure if they're a chain or not, but I've been up to that one a couple of times, and even if they don't have hats, you're bound to something worth buying (and, to make it even more appealing, every day is "half off day." hot shit.)
Hope that helps.

I've wanted a hat for the longest time. I'm not sure if I could pull one off. I'm short.
