I have been playing a Final Fantasy gacha game for past 5+ years that is finally being discontinued in a couple days. I managed to not be a whale and only throw in a few bucks every year in order to keep the game going.
My main thing is I'd prefer to buy a game outright than get into some sort of cash grab situation. While it's been nice having new content trickle out the for past few years, it's all going to be lost in a few days and that kinda sucks. I'm the type of player who still has saved games on my old Playstation One & Gamecube that I occasionally revisit for example.
IDK. Maybe it is the addictive qualities that kept me playing.
Anyway, I dig games like Advance Wars/Wargroove, Final Fantasy Tactics, Fire Emblem, Into the Breach, etc. Not sure exactly what genre this would be? Turn-based Strategy? Chess w/ dragons and shit? IDK.
Anyway, would love to hear any suggestions you might have for a game where I can puzzle some things out/level up my dudes occasionally while waiting for my doctor or drums to get dialed in or whatever. Thanks!

2It's more 'strategic' than strategy, but I think you'd fancy Slay the Spire.

4I've been fucking around w/ Fire Emblem Heroes. It's somewhat similar to my old game w/the gacha & the game play itself is similar to FE Three Houses on Switch...but since it has been around since 2017, I expect service on it to drop at some point sooner rather than later in the same way my previous game did & that kinda sucks considering how invested I ended up being after half a decade (although I'm shocked I haven't been experiencing weird addiction withdrawl symptoms since I played that game almost daily for so long). Fuggin gacha man. The other thing I don't dig about FEH aside from the anxiety of it going away at any moment is that its maturity is making my head spin trying to sort out all the one million ways to beef up your party/characters beyond the standard "level up."
Anyway, based on y'all's recs I'll probably nab StS soon although I never got sucked into Magic the Gathering or Pokemon cards or anything like that so wonder if this'll be an uphill battle for me to wrap my head around? I also wonder if that addiction component is the only reason I was playing the other game but hopefully the randomly generated component will keep it an interesting and fresh challenge as I know I certainly got a lot of mileage out of Into the Breach because of this. One way to find out.
