Saddest song of all time?
1My friends and I were arguing about this I think it might be Less Than You Think by Wilco.
I'm in agreement with this, especially the live solo version on youtube, But my runner up is The Dirty Three's song "Everything's Fucked."Dave N. wrote: Thu Jan 26, 2023 6:35 pm My vote goes to Vic Chesnutt for “Flirted With You All My Life”
Jess was a sweet guy. I hung out with him quite a bit during the Drams era of Slobberbone when my good friend was playing bass for them.numberthirty wrote: Thu Jan 26, 2023 8:20 pm As time goes by?
There are songs that wind up being sad on more than just one level.
There's this Jason Isbell song called "To A Band That I Loved..."
It's about the band Centro-matic eventually deciding to go on what might wind up being a permanent hiatus/what the band meant to him/how things are now that the band might be a thing of the past.
Now, just that?
It's certainly sad enough. I'm still not leveling with myself about that reality.
There's also a whole other way that some parts of this song wind up being sad to me now.
Back then, Drive By Truckers/Centro-Matic/Slobberbone were all bands that were only about a stone's throw from each other.
Heck, I went to see Centro-Matic with Slobberbone after a Slobberbone one time.
Last year, Jess from Slobberbone passed.
There's a line in that tune that goes "I'll be guarding your place...."/"In the lights on the stage in my heart..."
Now, it's just about impossible the hear that line without thinking of Jess and being pretty sad about all of the folks that won't ever even get the chance to know the guy.
