I'm not saying that there is never a reason why a musical artist should be able to sue another for copyright infringement (ahem, Vanilla Ice), but the fact that they are citing use of a similar chord progression as the reason is ridiculous.

I hope Ed Sheeran wins this case.

It really does seem completely absurd, right?

I’d really like to hear someone (who’s not the plaintiffs or their legal team) attempt to defend this lawsuit.

Yeah.. like the Robin Thicke lawsuit this is another instance of "suing based on a somewhat resemblance is kinda shitty" vs. "eh, who cares fuck em". If someone good gets sued I'll care a little more.
