The Townsend estate is suing. I didn’t see a thread on this, so I thought I would create one. And
here is a
Washington Post op-ed on the matter, titled “The Ed Sheeran lawsuit is a threat to Western civilization. Really.”

I'm not saying that there is never a reason why a musical artist should be able to sue another for copyright infringement (ahem, Vanilla Ice), but the fact that they are citing use of a similar chord progression as the reason is ridiculous.
I hope Ed Sheeran wins this case.

It really does seem completely absurd, right?
I’d really like to hear someone (who’s not the plaintiffs or their legal team) attempt to defend this lawsuit.

Another chance to hear the immortal "there are only 12 notes, so there aren't that many possible tunes".

Ed Sheeran Threatens to Quit Music if Found Guilty in Copyright Infringement Case
I find myself rooting for the ambulance chasers on this one.

Yeah.. like the Robin Thicke lawsuit this is another instance of "suing based on a somewhat resemblance is kinda shitty" vs. "eh, who cares fuck em". If someone good gets sued I'll care a little more.
