I might be fun to post everyone’s Insta posts in here for tomorrow’s Thank You day Heather and Corey have asked for on Instagram.

I’ll start …

IG format sucks for this sort of thing, and I already wrote a better story about this on here, but here it is. I mostly put this up because Heather seems to look at these.

While I am not really in the mix there...

A couple of weeks back, I was watching a video where Steve pointed out that the small diaphragm Oktava microphones are the opposite polarity of most microphones.

All I could think was "Man, now you tell me..."

So, thanks Steve.

I shared Steve's tenuous connection to underground queer filmmaking a couple of days ago; apologies for not sharing it earlier.

Over the years at length I've told stories about how I got into Big Black, watching Shellac for their first show at Augenblick, and friendships and bands forged via Steve's recording studio's online forum Electrical Audio/PRF. Good stories all, and it's not completely outside the realm of reason to note that my life would be wildly different if not for those friendships, connections, and such. What I'd like to briefly discuss is a song recorded by Steve.

"Closet Case" is a song by Pedro, Muriel, and Esther - side project from unapologetically black, genderqueer, intersex, performance artist Vaginal Davis. It's on the CD The White to be Angry, and was recorded by Steve in the mid-90's. The song was used in Hustler White, an unapologetically queer ludic and lurid explicit sex comedy from Canadian filmmaker l'enfant terrible Bruce LaBruce. What I hope I'm getting through to you is that Steve recorded a song used in a movie that gleefully depicts scene after scene of hardcore, gay and depraved sex acts. #ThankYouSteveAlbini and don't forget to screen Hustler White with your grandparents.

There's a Vaginal Davis exhibition on here in Stockholm at the moment. It's very good.

I don't think it's been posted anywhere here, but there's a Youtube stream of live events happening all weekend to commemorate Steve.

(one of the events is Silkworm - including Joel - reuniting with Jeff Panall on drums)

I'm enjoying catching up on some of these remembrances and sets, and particularly enjoyed the Sally Timms/Pajo/Fred Armisen/Hugo Burnham/Jeff Tweedy/Roger Miller (??) group playing Mekons and Go4 songs.

It was a highlight. Marissa Paternoster on "Anthrax" was the only thing all weekend that sounded like Steve--she can legitimately "do that" just naturally.

Nina Nastasia and her support were supernatural on day 3.

I enjoyed playing as SKWM very much and it was so lovely to spend time with my brothers. Very emotional and really satisfying.
