How do you vinyl?

How anal is everyone about their record collection? I'm talking about vinyl here, no one cares about your jewel cases or those funky digipaks.

I have all of my records in heavy PVC sleeves, with Spincare Audiophile inners, the ones with the layer of rice paper. I cut out any stickers from the cling wrap and slide in the back.

They're generally in alphabetical order then sub-ordered by release date.

Are other people this uptight or are you just slapping unsleeved records on the shelf and not thinking twice about it.

Some albums I have in the plastic sleeves, some I don't. They're arranged alphabetically, going by first name for names (ie, Jack White under 'J'). Soundtracks/comps after the letter Z.

I also have a rule about buying records. With the exception of 2 or 3 albums, I only buy albums I don't already have on CD UNLESS it's like a remastered/better sound package.
"Whatever happened to that album?"
"I broke it, remember? I threw it against the wall and it like, shattered."

If I were to attempt to rank my analness regarding vinyl from 0 (not anal) to 10 (the most anal), I would probably rank myself somewhere around a 7.

Records are all stored in a shelf with sufficient horizontal and vertical partitions like this one: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/kallax-she ... -10275862/

Records are 100% in alphabetical order by artist, then within each artist ranked oldest to newest.

I do NOT store albums in outer plastic sleeves; this is the main reason I don't rank myself higher on the anal scale. However, nearly all records themselves are in protective inner sleeves.

I keep a spreadsheet of all of my records, including their condition and the last time each record was cleaned. I periodically clean a portion of them.

I have almost every album that has ever meant anything to me on vinyl. Those I don't have are listed in a second tab in the aforementioned spreadsheet, ready to be used for reference during my next shopping extravaganza at the local record shop or Discogs.

The main other way I listen to music is via my iTunes library, which is kept pretty closely in line with my vinyl collection. If I buy albums on vinyl that I don't already have in iTunes, I will "record" those albums via Audacity and make new MP3s of them.

YouTube is a third way I will listen to music, but usually this is to find out if I like something and, if so, it will likely lead to a vinyl purchase.

Whatever CDs I have left (most I have sold or have given away) are collecting dust in a crawlspace.

My records are stored vertically in Ikea shelves, like the ones above, but the older version that was DCed and then the vinyl mafia demanded new ones, which are the above. The only difference is the outer walls are thicker than the ones on the Kallax.

Organization is alpha by artist without any further organization by date or album title. I sometimes keep solo artists with their bands, e.g., Richard H. Kirk is kept with Cabaret Voltaire, sometimes not. I have sections: Rock, Electronic, Dub/Reggae, Hip-Hop/Rap, Compilations, Jazz, Classical, International. Compilations are not organized in any meaningful way, but I don't have enough to make that important.

Most have outer plastic sleeves of whatever I can find at the time. I prefer the ones that are less slick/slidey but those do make it easier for cramming shelves full.

I wash all of my records in a Spin Clean system (Was Nitty Gritty vacuum but I had to give that back) and replace inner sleeves with new anti-static inner sleeves with the rice paper or whatever is on that side. I prefer the Spin Clean to Nitty Gritty, actually. I think it cleans better and is quiet. I keep the inner sleeve if is printed/custom. If they are plain I keep em for starting fires when camping. I keep anything that came with the record. If the OG plastic wrap has a sticker I just keep the plastic wrap on it and still put into a plastic sleeve.

I don't understand the rationale of not streaming any music one has on vinyl. I don't have a record player in my car, or a portable one for traveling, nor would I like to haul a bunch of records and a record player around the world.

My wife hates the way they sound and that I spend any time doing them.

I admit to being a bit delusional but it’s kind of a form of art for me.
