I watched part of Vanilla Sky the other day. It caused my eyes to bleed. There was an incredible vanity in the idea that it was a test of his 'acting ability' to play a man with a mutilated face.

A bad actor on screen. A bad actor in real life.

(There always has to be a bit in his films where he beats up a bathroom. It's another supreme display of his 'acting ability': The ability to loose it and punch a hand-dryer)

I thought Tom Cruise was excellent in 'Magnolia'. I have nothing more to say about actors Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes.

totally. i don't know if i've managed to avoid a bunch of his movies, which i think i may have, but i don't remember ever minding him as an actor. i think he did a great job with top gun, minority report, i don't remember if i've ever actually seen risky business, he was great in magnolia, what else? as far as those films, i would say all of them are pretty cheesy (or at least the 3 i've seen) but not because of him. he seems to pull off a convincing "this character is a lot like tom cruise" thing okay.
