We have decided to lower the day rates to expose more freelance producers, engineers, and bands to what is I believe the best music recording studio in Chicago. This is a change more for the studio, separate from Steve Albini (he will be the same overall price as before). Steve's work generates enough money to keep the studio running. Outside of him, we felt we could do more. If we want to attract the type of people and work that we appreciate so much (independent, experimental, exciting people and music) we need to be bit more affordable. One way or another, Electrical has catered to the independent music community for a long time. We would like to continue doing that. I would rather have friends come record here for week or two, than a band on Sony for a few days of overdubs. Freelance engineers, and producers always have to contest with a usually tiny budget. They are often stuck between making a living and recording somewhere decent. This will ease that pain a little.
For me, this will be great! The bands I record usually have a budget of only 2 to 10 thousand. It wont be so much of a "do or die" moment for them. They will get more for their life's savings. For bands with a bit more money, more time can be spent to flesh out ideas and tinker. There is a ton I can talk about why a freelance engineer, or band should come. The rooms, the mics, the equipment are all kind of hard to add up until you've been here. I want others to share that. The flow of ideas and interests that comes through here is addicting.
Good Days to you all,
Greg
P.S. The wiffleball fees have stayed the same.
WE VE REDUCED OUR STUDIO RATES!
